18 (UKSF) Signal Regiment was established in April 2005. The Regiment was formed by consolidating existing communication capabilities from 264 (SAS) Signal Squadron, SBS Signal Squadron, and 63 (SAS) Signal Squadron (Reserves), and forming additional sub-units to support the Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR) and global communications networks. Its function is to provide secure strategic and tactical communications and information systems, and Electronic Warfare and Signals Intelligence capabilities to UK Special Forces.

The Hoplite Fund was established in 2006 with the aim of supporting the Regiment’s serving personnel, veterans, and their families. It takes its name from the Ancient Greek warriors and the legend of Pheidippides who, at the cost of his life, took the message of victory from Marathon to Athens. With the same dedication our soldiers today will give their all to make sure that ‘the message is passed’, and like Pheidippides will do so regardless of the personal sacrifice.
